I got a call today from Richard Bonner, DNR commercial fishing law enforcement. He informed me that there is a large trap net partially on the surface just north and west of the Ludington Pier heads.

Approximately one mile north and one mile west. Coordinates: 43?58.027N 083?29.682W

He advised me that the CG became entangled in the net on Monday,April 4, and contacted the DNR

The DNR came to the site and documented the tangled mess on Tuesday, April 5, and contacted the LRBOI.? According to Richard, LRBOI spokesperson Joe LaPointe indicated that the net will be removed within one week. Until it is, all boaters and fisherman should take great care to avoid the whole area as there are many floating nets segments and long lines in all directions. We are attempting to contact LRBOI for the current locations of all nets.

When we get this information, we will begin to produce current net alerts on the LACA website. All boaters and fishermen should inform anyone who might traverse this area of the danger.
