Well I have seen some interesting things in Ludington, MI but this one is right up there.? The 27' Baha Cruisers Recovery Room III ran a ground ...

in Ludington over the weekend (June 19-20).? Well when I say ran a ground I should really be saying watch out for that enormous pier that runs from shore to the lighthouse.? We did experience some big waves over the weekend with multiple fronts moving through and strong winds.

The Recovery Room III is a fellow member of our home port - Harbor View Marina - and as a matter of fact we had just been checking out this boat the previous weekend.? Very nicely rigged with twin Honda 150s and all the elctronics it seems hard to explain how this could have happened.? No defintie explanation has been heard, but speculation had them following their GPS track back to the mouth of the harbor.

If that is the case - this again proves that you should never completely trust your GPS chartplotter - and make sure to set the track point interval to a sufficiently small duration.? A classic mistake is to set you track interval to 2 minutes - and leave the harbor hang a right to go check out the stick (Big Sable Lighthouse).? Well if you're unlucky - which you should always assume you are - it set a track point 30 seconds inside the harbor and the next point somewhere on the way to the light.? Drawing a course straight through the break wall to impending disaster.? Ofcourse this is pure speculation - but these are the early reports.
