Jay Yelas presented two subjects (see Jay Yelas - Jigging) this story covers his general presentation on tournament fishing and general apporaches to catching bass.? Jay will always try to use a Jig whenever possible - if fish are deep then he will use many other techniques.? But given most conditions Jay will always go to his strongest technique of jigging and build a pattern from there.

Jigs and Plastics

During Jay's presentation he said he would determine whether to use jigs or plastics early in the day.? I asked, "when determining which is working, do you do this proactively" and Jay responded by describing a general approach.? Because Jay's primary technique is jigging he starts there by picking an area that he believes will produce fish, he will work that area with a jig giving it as much as a couple of hours before starting to work in soft plastic techniques such as:

  • Carolina rigs
  • Texas Rig
  • Jigheads with plastics
