The Onekama Marine Memorial Weekend Shakedown took place in Onekama over the Holiday weekend. The event got off to great start with a 20 percent increase in participation over its inaugural year in 2006. The Shakedown is a 5-fish-limit tournament with no Pro/Am split. Boats could fish out of Onekama, Manistee or Arcadia. On day 1 the fishing was hit or miss. About half the boats competing were able to bring their limits to the scales. A few boats, however were skunked and many others came in with only 1 or 2 fish. Day 1 – Top 5 (points & pounds)
The start of Day 2 was touch and go with Mother Nature as the weather committee boats kept a close eye on a few lingering storm clouds and some dense early morning fog around the 3 tournament harbors. However, just before the official start time of 7:00am the clouds dissipated, the fog lifted and the teams were able to start the 2nd day on time. It was a much better day overall with nearly 80% of the tournament teams returning with their 5 fish. The limit catches made for an exciting finish at the scales. The team from Alibi proved that consistency pays with 5 fish limits on both days, each of them tipping the scales at just over 49 pounds. That was enough to get them the overall win. The biggest mover on day 2 was Reel Pressure who turned in the biggest box of the entire tournament at 55.55 pounds. Their big catch launched them all the way from 13th place after day 1 to 2nd place overall. Overall Shakedown – Top 5 (points & Pounds)
46 of the 49 boats in the Onekama Marine Memorial Weekend Shakedown participated in the Gander Mountain 333 Championship Series. Here are the top 5 with their total 3-fish weight:
