About 175 jobs will be created in Michigan because of a contract that has been made to repair a channel in the Kalamazoo River. The work is expected to begin in the fall and continue through next summer. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, awarded the almost $4 million contract to Great Lakes Dock & Material LLC in Muskegon to repair the walls of the federal channel leading from Lake Michigan to Saugatuck Harbor. The project is funded by the stimulus package. The Detroit District manages 94 harbors in and around Lakes Superior, Huron, St. Clair and the Michigan portion of Lake Erie.
